Allenheads - Circa 1925

A photo postcard of Allen Lodge, Allenheads. Posted in 1931, the sender has manually corrected the title from House to Lodge. Allen Lodge was built in 1826 as a vicarage for the curate of St Peter’s church who also served as chaplain at Allenheads’ private chapel-of-ease.  By the 1870s it was no longer the curate’s residence and housed mining officials before becoming a private house.
