Market Place, Allendale after a fall of snow.

The centre building in the picture was ‘Elliott’s’ greengrocers and sweet shop. In the 1950’s this had been the fish and chip shop.  Later in the 1980s it became a Spar mini-supermarket, then an independent mini-supermarket, then a beauty shop. In 2022 it reopened as a cafe and – with a nod to Elliott’s – a sweet-shop.
