Allendale Town - Circa 1950

Station Road, Allendale.

Constructed in the 1840s it is still (in 2020) called the ‘New Line’ by some older residents.   This relates to its referred to as the ‘new line of road’ in its early years. The 1844/45 minute book of meetings of `Trustees of the Allendale Turnpike Road’ refers to inspecting `the intended new line from Smeathlands near Catton to Allendale Town’.
