Bridge End - 31 August 1907

The Church pageant participants, arranged in front of the Brewery buildings at The Riding.

From the Hexham Courant (7 Sep 1907): “On Friday and Saturday last, the inhabitants of Allendale and district and many visitors enjoyed a festive time when a pleasing series of amusements were provided.

The pageant was the first of the kind to be held in the district, and a remarkable success it was. It was a representation of a country wedding dating some two centuries back, and it gave many delighted onlookers who witnessed it an admirable idea as to how the ceremony of tying the nuptial knot was performed in olden days, and the many vicissitudes the wedding pair had often to undergo before being finally settled in their new home.

Other characters in the pageant [included]: Sir Doughty Percival, J.P., and Dame Percival, parents of the bride (Major Walton and Mrs Clemitson)”
