Allendale Square - Circa 1861

The 7th (Allendale) Northumberland Rifle Volunteers parading on the Store Bank.  The remains of the old village stocks can be seen on the village green to the left of the photo, and ‘Huntingdon Place’ a series of long-lost cottages in the background (between the Golden Lion and the church).

A joiner’s shop was situated to the left, out of the picture – the joiner in his white apron is sitting to the left of the photo.

A ‘Captain Soparitin’ is said to have been in charge.
