Whitfield - Circa 1996

Former chapel, built in 1827, near to Hesley Well Farm. Now in ruins it is sited in an isolated spot.

Allendale Square - Circa 1912

Postcard showing St. Cuthbert’s church, Allendale.  Built in 1874 to replace an earlier building from 1810, itself on the site of a 12th century church, the pews were crafted by local joiner Nicholas Fairlamb.

Mohope - Date Unknown

This chapel at Mohope was built in 1858. It was converted into a house in the 1980’s.

Catton - Circa 1997

Primitive Methodist chapel at Lanefoot, Catton. Built in 1882, it is still used today (2003). An earlier church, long since demolished, stood on a site at the opposite side of the road.

Allenheads - Circa 1910

Built in 1825 by W. Crawhall for as a family chapel for the Beaumont family, the church building was converted into a house in the 1980s.

Catton - 1871

Appletree Shield. Former Primitive Methodist chapel, built in 1829 beside a stream at Mohope, near Hesley Well Farm.

Swinhope - Date Unknown

Former chapel, built in 1845. It achieved notoriety in 1849 when the lead miners rallied here. Now converted into a house.

Carrshield - Circa 1997

The Primitive Methodist Chapel in Whiteley Shield was built in 1857.  Roof repairs were carried out in 2000 and was still in use for worship in 2001. The final service in the chapel was held in September 2015.
