Carrshield - 1957

Pupils of Carrshield Village School in 1957.   The school opened in 1851 and closed eleven years after this photo was taken, at which point only five pupils remained on the roll.

Carrshield -

Roll of Honour of seventeen Carrshield former pupils who served in the Great War, of whom four lost their lives. Originally placed in the school until its closure in the 1960s it is now located behind the font in St Mark’s Church, Ninebanks.

Allenheads - Circa 1975

Originally this was the Allenheads school. Up to the 1850’s, classes were taught by the minister, Rev. W. Walton who was curate at St. Peters in 1827. The school on Fawside was built 1848.

Sinderhope School, built around 1851 by the Beaumont Mine owners and public subscription. It has more recently been used as a Community Centre.
