John Henry Reed (1897-1979) served in the Great War. Born in Sipton, near Allenheads (see also 0005026)  

Allenheads - Circa 1915

Private Gilbert Graham of Allenheads served in the 30th Northumberland Fusiliers. Gilbert was born at Sipton Shield as one of ten siblings. He died at the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval monument. Also pictured in Hexham Courant, 22 July 1916

Allendale Town - 1905

Laying of the Temperance Hall foundation stone. The building opened in 1908 and subsequently became Allendale’s Village Hall later in the 20th century.

Bridge End - Circa 1970

The Grand Parade at ‘the Cattle Show’ – aka Allendale Agricultural Show. Held at the end of the show on Riding Haughs, this was an opportunity for all class winners to take to the showfield for a final time.

Postcard showing Huntwell – built for Thomas Sopwith between c. 1860 and c.1870. Sopwith was mining agent for W.B. Lead Mines from 1841 to his retirement in 1871. In the top right corner of the photograph is Coating Hill.
