Looks like way before 1900. Very few old images of the town show the building to the right. It extended from what was to become Alston’s first Co-Op. Also uniquely showing are the lean-tos on what became Kearton’s milliners- behind the Cross.
The blue slate roof of the building to the right would only have been possible after the arrival of the railway- post 1852. There are also no granite tracks among the cobbles- put in to ease the passage of wagon wheels.
