Allendale Town - 1 August 1920

The dedication of the lych gate at St Cuthbert’s Church by Lady Allendale.

It was built as a memorial dedicated to the men of Allendale who lost their lives in the Great War. ‘For God, King, and Country’ is carved on the gable ends and there are further inscriptions in the gate, including the names of 22 local men who lost their livesLater the memorial was also dedicated to the two men who lost their lives in the Second World War. The seats and gates were removed because of vandalism in 2006 when the loch gate was renovated.
